How much eSIM data do you actually need?
4 min read · Updated July 1, 2026
The most common mistake is buying way more data than you use “just in case”. Here is a realistic per-day guide so you can size your plan honestly.
Light — maps and messaging
Navigation, chat, boarding passes, the occasional search: roughly 300 MB/day. A 3–5 GB plan covers a one-to-two-week trip.
Everyday — social + photos
Add Instagram, photo backup and browsing: roughly 500–800 MB/day. 5–10 GB is the sweet spot for a week.
Heavy — streaming + hotspot
Video, music, video calls and tethering a laptop: 1–2 GB/day or more. Choose 10–20 GB, or a reloadable plan you can top up.
The honest rule
Buy for your everyday use, not your worst case. If you run low, elesim plans top up in seconds — you never have to overpay upfront.
